Preview: Tottenham vs Watford
I am still in favour of resting our team and putting out the Spurs foetal xi as I am pretty sure a group of pregnant women would have no problem dispatching a Watford short on ideas, skill endeavour, belief and talent.
Then again there is always the famous Spurs inconsistency and as “The Guru” says: “More than one winning run has been thrown away against a circus team with big red noses and oddly shaped boots.” But neither he nor I see any chance of that with a forcibly rested Robbie Keane leading the side.
Berbs will probably be sent home to bed with a book in preparation for putting the Overpriced Squad of the Century to bed on Monday and lining up an FA Cup Final at Wembley (after a quick match against Blackburn) with Manchester United assuming they find enough form to also put Watford to the sword…
Watford, regardless of their state, are bound to breach a Spurs defence so leaky it seems installed by a cowboy plumber. But Martin Jol’s all-new “we’ll score one more” policy, much loved by all Tottenham fans, is bound to win through in another exciting encounter. One must never discount the venom, though, of a side that has no more pressure on their shoulders. Already guaranteed a Championship place next season Watford are more likely to store that venom for their FA Cup tie.
Of course with Bolton up against Manchester United and a probable draw between Reading and Portsmouth should the Lilywhites take the game they should find themselves just two points off the much-coveted 5th place and showing the best form of all those competing for it. It looks, with the final run in coming up, that only a turn in fortunes for Bolton or a good run-in for Everton could pip them to the post.
So Tottenham look good for the “Best of the Rest” title with also both the FA and UEFA Cup to play for. Will they show flair and courage to take all three or will they bottle it like times before? This pundit backs them to take 2 of those 3.
