Oh the things I have seen…
All the Roubles in the world couldn’t stop it. A Senator Palpatine look-alike as opposition manager couldn’t stop it. Stupid rumours about Berbatov created by internet hit whores couldn’t stop it. The board’s incompetence in the manner they hired the new coach couldn’t stop it. Robinson’s brain-block couldn’t stop it. Spurs are back playing expansive, attacking football. They are finally doing it with confidence and they got us all a cup while they did it.
In recent weeks I have had just about the best time ever as a Tottenham fan of 29yrs. I have seen an inept Arsenal first dominated at their home ground and then humbled 5-1 at The Lane. I have seen Manchester United celebrate a last-minute equaliser against a superior Spurs side like they had won the league and I have seen Spurs outplay and out-think a terminally dull Chelsea eventually resulting in a win, a cup, secured European football for next season and a team with self belief.
And I got to see King and Keane get their just desserts.
I also (most shockingly, I believe) saw Tottenham replace an attacker with a defender in order to defend a lead and… wait for it, actually defend a lead! I, too, saw a goal scored by Spurs from a set piece (penalties do not count), the first since the early 1960s (or thereabouts). These are things of high fiction in my world.
I am a Spurs fan so, that said, I also saw us concede a ridiculous goal to Chelsea because Paul Robinson, one of the best shot-stoppers in the game, does not know that the wall is there to cover the one side of the goal and he is there to cover the other. It is mental moments like that that give us all reason to want to beat him over the head with a mallet. Hopefully he will, one day, get that brain function back. Some sort of electroshock therapy is probably in order. It wouldn’t have been quite the same, though, if he had been on the bench as he is thoroughly Tottenham (crap at defence but scores goals from midfield).
I also got to see some encouraging statements on Sky by King about his recovery. Especially welcome after Hit Whore Harry Hotspur had released his little “exclusive” on how King was going to retire from football after the game. There are too many “fan bloggers” out there only too happy to spread damaging or upsetting rumours about their club to suck as many page views to their websites as possible. Go join the Daily Mail- they’re desperate for new rubbish to print.
Oh for more sites like PushandRun and Topspurs (and spursfans, obviously).
Typically deferential, our Club Captain had to say this about Woodgate:
“It was our first game together, and we have trained only twice together before that. He has come in and done a great job, he helped me through the game as well and that’s what the team is all about. We complement each other,”
and this about his injury:
“I have had some problems with the knee. I have played games and then afterwards it’s been a bit of a problem but I am not worried about it one bit. I’m confident. At the moment it’s a tricky situation, but hopefully I will get it right - even if it’s not this season it will be next season. My desire has not gone away. I haven’t done much training in the last month or so and I’m not 100 per cent at the moment, but once I get my knee right, I will be.”
Chimbonda apologised for his moody moment in which case the Most Hysterical Behaviour Award for the CCF goes to Avram Grant who set himself apart from his own squad, his own fans and every newspaper column in existence by stating that Chelsea were the better team on the day and deserved to win.
Hahahahahahahahahaha….
